Privacy policy – Webmote

Webmote is a remote control app for LG TVs running webOS, published by Canapé Studio. This policy explains what the app does with information. In short: Webmote collects nothing. It has no account, no analytics and no crash reporting, and it talks to nothing but your TVs on your own network.

What Webmote stores, and where

To control your TVs, Webmote keeps the following on your phone only:

for each TV you pair: its name, network address, model, webOS version, the pairing key the TV issued, the fingerprint of its security certificate, its network (MAC) addresses, and the apps you pinned;
your settings: vibration, volume keys, touchpad sensitivity and whether you dismissed a hint.

This information never leaves your phone except as described below. It is excluded from Android backups and device transfers. Uninstalling Webmote, or forgetting a TV in its Settings, deletes it.

What Webmote sends, and to whom

Webmote sends commands only to your TVs, on your local network: button presses, volume and picture changes, text you type in its keyboard, and requests for the TV’s apps, inputs and settings. The connection is encrypted. To find TVs and to turn them on, it also sends standard discovery (SSDP) and Wake-on-LAN messages on your local network.

Webmote does not send any information to the developer or to any other company or service, and it contains no third-party analytics or tracking code.

Permissions

Network and Wi-Fi state, multicast: to reach your TVs and find them on your Wi-Fi.
Notifications and foreground service (connected device): to keep the connection to your TV while it’s on, so tiles, widgets, the notification and your volume keys respond instantly.

Webmote does not request location, contacts, storage, camera or microphone access.

Children

Webmote is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
